What Ages or Age Ranges Enjoy Broadway Magic Hour the Most?
NYC's Ultimate Family-Friendly Magic Show
NYC Family Show for All Ages: Looking for fun, amazement, laughter and mind-blowing magic, mind-reading, and grand illusions for all ages? The consensus best magic show in NYC for families is The Broadway Magic Hour starring Jim Vines and Carl Mercurio. The show is ideal for kids aged 5 -8, as well as tweens from 9 - 12, and teens from 13+. Parents and grandparents also love the show, with many of them telling us, "This show was the highlight of our trip to NYC!"
1 Hour of Jaw-Dropping Magic: The Broadway Magic Hour is one hour of award-winning magic (as seen on national television such as "Penn & Teller: Fool Us." Jim Vines was awarded the title of North American Champion of Magic by the world congress of magic known as F.I.S.M.
Audience Participation: The Broadway Magic Hour is no "sit back and watch" show! Everyone in the audience participates in the show -- it's really an immersive experience. Also - kids and adults from the audience are often called up onstage to help make the magic happen!
Broadway Magic Hour: What ages love the show the most?
One question we get asked a lot is: What ages / age range enjoys the Broadway Magic Hour the most? We honestly have to tell you the show is for ALL AGES. The Broadway Magic Hour is not a "kids' magic show," and it's not an "adults magic show." The Broadway Magic Hour is truly a magic show designed for families to enjoy together.
Does the show sometimes devolve into silly humor? Yes! We go there! But we do not stay there the whole show. The show has a multitude of humorous moments and scenes, some of them are broad comedy that even the smallest kids "get," while some moments go right over the heads of the kids and are geared to make the teens and adults laugh.
Note: 100% of the humor in the show is clean and family friendly. There is absolutely no "questionable language" in the show or any "R-rated themes." Everything is family-friendly and aboveboard. Nothing in the show will make grandma blush!
That's why we always say, "The Broadway Magic Hour is for everyone, ages 5 - 105!"
Will Grandparents Enjoy the Show?
Yes! The Broadway Magic Hour was specifically to bring generations together in an hour of wonder. We believe that kids and their grandparents have possibly never been further apart culturally than they are today. Kids are digital natives -- they're on social media and they connect with other people using technology that grandparents cannot fully fathom.
Additionally, cultural values have shifted since the grandparents' heyday, and it can be challenging to understand the cultural references and values of younger generations. BUT -- at a magic show, everyone experiences wonder the exact same way. There are no political statements or difficult social conversations addressed in our show. We are all about fun, amazement, and the uniquely bonding power of WONDER.
Grandparents often tell us that they love taking their grandkids out for ice cream or hot chocolate after our show, because now they have some fun and interesting things to discuss. How did that kid fly in the air? How did the magicians know what number I was thinking of? Kids can come up with some wonderfully creative theories on how magic tricks work -- and it brings about an exciting and stimulating conversation with adults. Much more interesting than "What did you do at school this week?"
Will teens enjoy the Broadway Magic Hour?
Okay, let's face it -- teens can be notoriously difficult to entertain! (Unless you're Taylor Swift, of course.) But we have found that when the magic in the show begins, even the coolest teen finds themselves enjoying and laughing along with the magic and amazement -- because magic truly is an artform that everyone can experience and enjoy.
We find that teens are also pretty amazed and impressed by the close-up magic before the show. Close-up magic has become very popular, and we always select a great NYC magician to entertain our guests with close-up magic before the main show begins. The close-up magician will vary from show to show -- we often have magical artists such as Mike Kurylo or Lee Alan Barrett performing close-up magic, but whoever it is the day you come, rest assured it's a performer with an amazing skill level -- Jim and Carl hand pick the close-up magicians themselves.
What else do we need to know about the show before bringing the whole family?
If you have a baby, you can bring the baby to the show for free. We just ask that if the baby starts to cry, that you kindly take the baby out of the showroom until they calm down, and bring them back in when ready. Nothing in the show will upset babies (ie, there are no jump-scares or anything of the sort), but sometimes when 180 people in a room laugh or clap, it can startle a baby. So, just keep that in mind.
Jim Vines and Carl Mercurio are dads too (both of Jim's kids are in their 20's now, but Carl has a 5 year old daughter) -- so we know the life of a parent. We love kids, we love parents, we love everybody... So bring the whole family, and prepare to laugh and be amazed together. There's truly nothing like a magic show to have the whole family laughing, and seeing thing that they cannot believe. The Broadway Magic Hour is truly a wonderful experience that brings the whole family together. We look forward to seeing you soon!
